TORONTO - Attendance issues at the Bell Centre have been a cause for concern at the world junior championship. But on Monday, Hockey Canada reaffirmed its commitment to Montreal as a co-host city for the 2017 tournament.Responding to comments by IIHF council member Frank Gonzalez and president Rene Fasel about keeping options open for two years from now, Hockey Canada president and CEO Tom Renney threw cold water on the idea of holding the tournament exclusively in Toronto in 2017.I think were deeply committed to Montreal, as we should be, Renney said. We feel very strongly about Montreal being an outstanding hockey market in the world, period.Theres no reason to suggest anything other than that.Hockey Canada has come under criticism from fans for expensive ticket prices that contributed to empty seats for Canadian games in Montreal. Fasel said Hockey Canada was responsible for setting the ticket prices, which ranged from $66 to $366.Renney took over for Bob Nicholson this past summer and was not responsible for prices that were set before he came on the job. Renney deferred comment on ticket prices until Hockey Canada can review everything about this tournament but assumed the onus for decisions moving forward.Im responsible for what happens beyond this point, so Im good with that, Renney said. And I think taking responsibility for what lies ahead is critical for all of us.There were 3,000 empty seats at the Bell Centre for the marquee New Years Eve game between Canada and the United States and more for the opener against Slovakia on Boxing Day. Fasel estimated this tournament would finish with between 365,000 and 385,000 total fans. That would make it the third-most-attended world juniors in history but well behind Ottawa in 2009 (453,000) and Edmonton and Calgary in 2012 (444,000).Asked if he was worried about ticket prices for this tournament being too high, Renney said if review showed that to be the case then I have concerns, no question. The last thing I want to do is ostracize kids from the game of hockey because they cant afford to play it, Renney said.Renney wasnt certain on how much of a profit Hockey Canada would reap from this tournament, saying that it might be a little light of an estimate of $20-$25 million. Its certainly a healthy event at the very least, Renney said. We want to pump as much of this back into development as we can.Fasel wondered if marketing was a problem that led to smaller crowds in Montreal. Renney wasnt sure if that was the case but didnt mind the IIHF president being critical of Hockey Canada. We have to hold ourselves to a high standard, Renney said. Were big people, were adults, we can deal with that.Follow @SWhyno on Twitter Oakland Athletics Jerseys . Malone will become an unrestricted free-agent and as per the collective bargaining agreement, the Lightning will be responsible for two-thirds of the remainder of his contract over twice the length of the rest of the deal. Mark McGwire Jersey . Erik Logan, president of the network, said Friday that the postponement was made after meetings with the St. Louis Rams. Kansas City became the first team in baseball history to win four extra-inning games in a single postseason on Friday, as Alex Gordon crushed a leadoff homer in the 10th and Mike Moustakas added the deciding two-run blast in the Royals 8-6 win. The Germans were effortless as they stroked in goal after goal past a hapless and unrecognizable Brazil. Where, I wonder, have we heard that before? Edmonton is sure to evoke and rekindle those extraordinary scenes and memories from the FIFA U-19 Womens World Championship in 2002. That was when, on the back of 10 goals and an MVP performance from Christine Sinclair, the host nation made it all the way to the final. Four Canadians made it onto the All-Star Team. Matched against our best football friends to the south in that final, it seemed we were heading for penalties until eventually becoming unstuck in the second half of extra time - courtesy of a Lindsay Tarpley winner. In doing so, the 2002 U-19 final sowed the seeds for the biggest global rivalry in the womens game. This was on clear display at that now infamous London 2012 semifinal at Old Trafford. Five of those Sinclair goals in 2002 came against England in the quarterfinal at Commonwealth Stadium. A crowd of just over 23,000 was in attendance then. A spike in the box office occurred after Tuesdays North Korea victory, wiith sales for the Germany quarter final already surpassing the 16,000 mark.dddddddddddd So were already guaranteed this will be the largest crowd of Canada 2014 so far. Runners up in 2012 and champions in 2010, Germany - along with the French - are the two standout teams of the tournament. Stopping their trio of goal scorers in Diebritz, Bremer and Pamfil - who have already found the back of the net 11 times in only three matches - is a large part of the task that awaits our ladies. Park the bus, Andrew Oliviera will not. We have a trio of stardust ourselves in Kadeisha Buchanan, Nichelle Prince and Janine Beckie. These players especially have been instrumental in that extraordinary turnaround in our fortunes, since halftime against Finland last Friday. Make no mistake - if we advance, it will be against the odds. Our so-termed 12th Player at Commonwealth Stadium has a significant role to play. If Tuesdays final group stage game provided me with abiding memories, imagine what it could be like at Olympic Stadium in Montreal next Wednesday night. A possible Canada-France semifinal matchup exists. Imagine that for a moment. @TheSoccerNoel on Twitter Wholesale Spain Jerseys Cheap Juventus Jersey Cheap Cristiano Ronaldo Jersey Wholesale AC Milan Jerseys Cheap Arsenal Jerseys Cheap A.S.
